it is saturday night, and i am in l.a. at the airport. i am at a 'hotspot' that is not run by at&t, and therefore, i can't post, which is why i am posting on tuesday may 10th from saturday, may 8th.
to blog without power; no way to connect to the internet; no way to connect with an outlet; i'm having dinner standing up!! but, i am fully powered-up with a glass of iced tea, and a new netbook battery.
my flight from l.a. to london was actually cancelled this morning due to the 'ash cloud'. what powerlessness one feels when there are circumstances beyond one's control! but a gracious woman whose name i can't now remember from american airlines, stayed on the phone with me for one hour (!) to find me a flight on british airways that was leaving only 30 minutes later; they would let the british aircraft land; so i experienced grace twice in the same moment! it is one of life's mysteries, as to why one aircraft could fly and the other one could not. but there you have it; the mystery of grace.
i received a cross before i left; small, simple, beautiful. a gentle reminder that we do not fly alone. i am blessed to be able to "carry" all of you along on my journey -- but i didn't have to pay for extra luggage!
the sounds of being in an international airport are really something! when i left fresno, the people who checked me in at the front counter, ended up loading me on the plane. here in l.a., i am surrounded by the sounds of the world; a reminder in both fresno and l.a., what a small world we are; yet we don't always notice the power of this richness.
so i depart on another journey; awed by this richness, and yet another grace...my now delayed flight is on time and boarding...and i'm not at my gate yet....o the grace to 'get me to the gate on time...'
